Hi everybody,

Please be careful when you purchase a NEW DOMAIN from YAHOO. On their small business and Domain sale place they announced that there is 24 hours technical support but sorry to say that there is no any help from them.

Here is my problem, recently I bought a Domain Name from Yahoo, but I cannot access by Domain Control Panel. I can see my domain has been registered in http://www.allwhois.com, I send yahoo Domain Tech Guys so many emails, no any response (and all they have is ******** online form, which I think they never look at) After long struggle, I managed to find their phone number (USA) and called them, but again same ********-- voice mail at other side.

I am in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, but there is no any local support in this region.

so BECAREFUL guys!!

i have no problem with their control panel.
i can log in configure the stuff...EXCEPT there are some problems with the dns thing. no matter what nameservers i have changed to, it will still show that damn yahoo under construction page though it should appear that page cannot be displayed message on my browser.

and i am starting to worry if i can transfer the domain out in future.

I doubt Yahoo's "cheating" you. But I won't be surprised if they blocked users from
your country from accessing their control panel, either.

Sorry, what's wrong with Malaysia? It is a good country, isn't it?

It's not a matter of whether a country is good or bad. If a provider sees numerous
fraudulent transactions consistently coming from an area over a period of time, it's
much easier to block out that area to prevent further abuse.

vEr5e

then why don't they block the country initially at the registration so that they won't even have to spent the money in the first place?

By the way after long struggle, we found out that, the domain name we bought has some connection with www.MelbourneIT.com, after that we contacted the support service or MelbourneIT, and found that, Yahoo is Domain resealler of MelbourneIT. MelbouneIT has nothing to do with our Domain Names, all control remains with Yahoo, then finally help support at MelbourneIT give an number for Yahoo support, and we call that number... but expect what no response(may be sleeping)... again!!! Can I ask whay they mean by "24-hour toll-free customer support "
I don't know why Yahoo is playing on people.

I'm from Malaysia and have purchased 2 domains under their 2.99 plans and have had no problems what so ever. Authorization for payment took a little long for the first payment but once they knew I was legit, I didn't have any problems at all.

Yah "Heartz" You maybe right, because I know some of my friend have Yahoo Domain Name, no problem with them, but what if there is any problem like mine or if any problem happens to anybody near future...
Where is their 24-hour toll-free customer support which they promise!!!

If you are outside of the US it is highly unlikely they would provide a toll free number

Anyone here help me.

I bought 8 domain names with yahoo small business and 3 of them not appear on domain management page. 2 of 3 that disappear I didn't change the nameserver yet. I have contacted them and told them what my problem is happenning and then they ask me back for Yahoo ID, Domain name, Date of Birth, Any one of the following: [Zip Code, Alt Email Address, Street Address, or Phone Number] by from domains-billing@yahoo-inc.com. I reply them what they needs but until today my problem can't be solved and no any reply to me. Then I try to contact them everyday to help me solve this problem it take about 2 weeks now. I'm tried on this. I'm not living in USA so it quite hard for me to call them.

Any could help me or suggest me what to do next. NOw I didn't chage the nameserver yet so I can't start to work with my new project.

yes, i am also witness to Yahoo cheating. I got qurango.com domain from them and whenever I want to "cloak" the domain, they put their advertising banners. that is pure cheating.

I think the word "cheating" is a little midleading in the title.

When I first began to visit this board and needed to choose a nickname, I was a Yahoo customer.

Contact data, as provided by
http://search.bbb.org/search.html
is:

Yahoo!
701 First Ave
Sunnyvale, CA 94089-1019
Telephone: (408) 349-3300
Fax: (408) 349-3300
[Probably wrong. For fax try 1-408-349-3301]
Principal: Terry Semel, CEO

Places to which you can complain that will probably get Yahoo's attention are:

BBB of Santa Clara Valley, Ltd.
2100 Forest Ave., Ste. 110
San Jose, CA 95128
U.S.A.
Fax 1-408-278-7444

Santa Clara County
Office of the District Attorney
County Government Center, West Wing
70 West Hedding Street
San Jose, CA 95110
U.S.A.
Fax 1-408-286-5437

Most likely when they quit wasting your time the solution will be for Yahoo to get Melbourne IT to provide the key so you can log on with them to control your account.

I have found that Godaddy works well for me. However, I have noticed on these boards that based on what others have written it appears that people outside the U.S.A. are more likely to have difficulties with Godaddy.

I already have hosting to use I just want to access the domain control panel to change the Name Server of them. They said they didn't charge me the credit care but at allwhois.com, those domains already own by my name now I can't do any with my projected domain that I took 3 days to creat them. Any suggestion for me? Now I'm only waiting for their next reply that take too long time for each reply.

Is the whois-listed email address for these domains a good, functional address. If so, then the good news is that after two months of having your time wasted by Yahoo you should be able to transfer to someplace good.

Yahoo domain is crap

I tried to register 2 days ago.

The domain is registered sucessfully. I wait 15 minutes to change name server.

Yesterday my domain is not in the control panel anymore. It's a very good domain name.

I sent an email to domains-support@yahoo-inc.com but noone replies. I'm still waiting for their response.

Only 1 thing: if you have a good domain in mind, don't loose your domain to get a few dollars cheaper.

Yahoo domain is only for newbie (small business)

Is this true ?
see my post http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=465941

I have the same story with yahoo ! The last domain that I registered with them is no longer in my control panel , and yahoo claimed that it didn't receive the payment ,that's why they deleted the domain from my control panel !!!
But till now , my domain infos at whois.sc keeps indicating that I'm the registrant of the domain , and my registrar is MelbourneIT ( yahoo is a reseller for them ) .

Do you think that I would be able to transfer my domain to another registrar after two months ?
The admin e-mail at whois.sc is a working e-mail for me , and the new registrar can contact me at this mail !
But don't you think that the new registrar should contact yahoo before transfering my domain ??? In that case , I can kiss my domain goodbye ! because yahoo will do whatever they can to let the transfer fail !!! Damn yahoooooo !

I appreciate any help in this issue , that's because I don't have any experience with domain transfers !
Thanks.:)

In theory, if things work like they should, if your domain is not locked, if it is not expired, if it is registered to you, and the whois-listed email address works for you, then you should be able to find a registrar you like and submit the request for domain transfer to them.
Although I have found Godaddy to be pretty good, I don't think they'd be the best choice if you live where a phone call to U.S.A. would be expensive.

One possible catch is if the domain is locked. You should be able to unlock it from your MelbourneIT logon. That is, if you have a MelbourneIT logon. You should, but if you don't that is what should be a simple problem that might turn into a struggle to correct.

Yahoo's support is very slow. And when they received your email they will reply by asking you to give your Yahoo ID, Domain name, Date of Birth, Any one of the following: [Zip Code, Alt Email Address, Street Address, or Phone Number] etc.

I just registered 20 domain names with them last 2 weeks. Godaddy is definitely better. Jerry Yang or David Filo have to do something about this.

As for me I prefer to contact Jerry or David personally at jerry@yahoo.com or david@yahoo.com . :D rfol

Never ever trust these unofficial mail IDs over the net , you are dealing with sensitive information.

The issue is likely support at MelbourneIT, which as has been mentioned here, is Yahoo's wholesaler. The issue of MelbourneIT's support (or lack thereof) cam up during the Panix.com hijacking, when it turned out they simply didn't provide any support staff on the weekends. Any problems had to wait until Monday. Since Panix.com got hijacked on a Friday night, that was a big problem ...

You usually have to wait 24 hours for the settings to propogate to all the servers. sometimes you get lucky and you can view your site within an hour or so. You ought to be able to transfer it out - even if they tell you that you can't. I did that with Tripod a couple of years ago. They told me that if I did not stay with them for a year they were going to keep my domain name - only I transferred my domain name out before I cancelled. :)

Warning: Yahoo domains does not allow you transfer domains from other registars. I signed up for their $2.95 deal and they refused to refund me after giving a generic response in the email. What kind of registar (yahoo) doesn't accept transfers in? Nonsense! Stay away from Yahoo, they stole my money and I'm still talking with the bank for a credit card refund.

In one sense Yahoo has done you a favor by not letting you transfer into their lousy service. Attempting to keep the money for doing nothing should be illegal. They probably figure you won't waste the time to push a complaint. I would do so as a matter of principle. It will cost them time which costs money to have a person respond to a BBB and Santa Clara DA complaint. Well, maybe not much. They probably have that pretty automated.
Why won't they let you transfer in? Well, the $2.95 deal is a loss leader. They'll only make money if you happen to be satisfied enough to renew or to buy more services. Someone buying a new domain might do that. Someone who is already familiar with transferring domains is a high risk of not remaining satisfied with their service.
