VPS vs. Dedicated - New Benchmark Results
Following the discussion in previous UnixBench thread, I tweaked the benchmark to bring it closer to today's typical webhosting condition. Disk READ is weighted more in the final score, and concurrency is included in all tests. I also changed the base index to a P233MMX machine because I don't have the READ result from the original base machine.
Download: UnixBench v4.1.0 - WHT Variant
# gunzip -dvc unixbench-4.1.0-wht.tar.gz | tar xvf -
# cd unixbench-4.1.0-wht
# make
# ./Run
Please download and run it on your dedicated or VPS. Then post your result here for discussion. Thanks!Last edited by sirius; 09-03-2008 at 07:12 PM.

I just downloaded the archive originally posted (the non-WHT specific archive), I'll download the WHT one and see what happens.
I agree that it looks weird!0

One thing that I realize. Some of the test are done only once instead of the original three times or done twice instead of ten times (and then averaged). Making the test very succeptible to "noise". My tests seem to indicate that the result can be very fluctuating because of this.

I am waiting for someone to post result fromo a Dual CPU server (hopefully light CPU load and fast filesystem). The score could be quite interesting for comparison.
When posting result, please include all lines below the '======' marker. So we could see kernel info and system load before and after the benchmark.0

pingles's AMD beats your opteron
I think the benchmark isn't accurate at all if pingles's result is real or else he might have just edited the score before he posted0

this result when I compare to others is a bit 2 slow, it's hard to say actually.
Maybe, would the best performance benchmark be some MYSQL test or related, just my opinion. That would cover all CPU+memory+hard drive access
